117 Generations is evolution unfolding on the computer. It is an exploration of the structural and aesthetic possibilities which are emergent from evolutionary systems. Sexual reproduction and accumulating mutations produce structures which are moving in a dance of continual adaptation while increasing in complexity of form. 117 Generations is a compilation of three distinct lineages with random genetic beginnings which hint at the range of aesthetic gamuts that coding is capable of producing. Taking cues from nature 117 Generations functions parallel to the natural world in its processes, but its forms and mannerisms are alien. 117 Generations exists in an invented computer environment divorced from real world physics.
